Finlay’s Juggling Video
Rubik’s Cube and Juggling
The 2×2 Rubik’s Cube and the 3×3 Dayan Cube.
The World Record for solving a 3×3 Rubik’s Cube is about 9 seconds one-handed and 5 seconds 2 handed. The world record for solving a 2×2 is 0.69 seconds.
Recently I have been trying to learn how to solve one.
This is me juggling. This all started when I had three golf balls and I started throwing them around. Two weeks later I could juggle very well and do several tricks. I’ve also started to juggling different objects like Rubik’s cubes.
I’m aiming to learn how to juggle more balls at once. The current world record for bean bags is held by British juggler Alex Barron. He’s a friend of the family of a friend of mine from school. His record is 13 beanbags for 15 catches and he also holds the world record for 11 balls and 25 catches. Watch his video here.
A busy weekend
Fun in the garden
One of our favourite summer videos 😀
Rememberance weekend
Finn Graham’s grandfather came to our school yesterday. He collects medals from WW1 and he showed us a Victoria cross. The cross is worth a lot of money because it was never awarded to someone and was one of the first few made. I even got to hold it. He also talked a lot about WW1 and showed us other medals. It was a very interesting talk and I felt humbled by it.
Halloween 2014
Another great Halloween. Phoebe had friends Sophia and Shannon over and Finlay arrived back from school to find his good friends William and James Lewis waiting for him all ready to go.
Finlay quickly threw on a costume and mask and we were ready to go. And with the mildest Halloween ever, it was a good night for a bit if trick or treating and catching up with neighbours.
Finlay enjoyed doing his moon walk for extra sweets and Phoebe tried a joke or two and all came home with buckets piled high.
Our puking pumpkin, that Phoebe helped design, was a big hit with the trick or treaters, but there were some very impressive pumpkins to be found along our road.
The men, left at home, (Benson and Bill) tried to offer some of our trick or treaters cucumber and carrots but when that didn’t go down too well they did manage to persuade some teenagers to do gymnastic before parting with the sweets.
To finish the evening off there was some delicious Thai pumpkin soup made by the brilliant witch – Julie Lewis.
Phoebe’s half term
On Sunday I was on my scooter chasing Finlay down the road when I tripped on something and fell over.
Then I broke my arm. It took 4 hours at the hospital too get it checked out – i was hoping it was only bruised but it was broken.
Then on Wednesday because I didn’t really have much to do, so my mum took me to the theatre to see Wicked. It was a bit scary because the monkeys had really weird costumes and it felt like they were come up to me. I liked the bit when the witch melted but hid away and then ran off with her boyfriend the scarecrow.
On Thursday even though I had a broken arm i went to a two day drama and singing workshop dressed up as a demon.
On Friday it’s Halloween and I’m dressing up as a vampire queen. Can’t wait.
On Saturday I’m meant to do stagecoach but I might not do it because I may be tired.
On Sunday I can’t do golf because of my arm.
Day out in London – Finlay’s half term
The Art of Brick Exhibition, James Bond in Motion + some street entertainment in Covent Garden.
With Julie Lewis, William and James
Nathan Saway gave up his job as a lawyer to follow his artistic dreams and has created an amazing array of lego sculptures that are now on display in London at the Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch,
The exhibition features over 80 sculptures created from more than a million LEGO® bricks. Some of the sculptures are fun, some are more thought provoking but we all loved it and the kids came away inspired.
Here are some of our favourites pieces:
Cracked
‘This sculpture depicts how I feel every morning.”
“Do you ever want to take your head off and shake all the junk out of it?”
“Haven’t we all been there, hanging on by a finger. I know I have. And though it might at first seem impossible, we usually manage to pull ourselves back up.”
“Taking a leap is hard. I used to be a lawyer There was nothing wrong with being a lawer, but I always knew there was another me, so that same day I decided to let the Artist inside out and I never looked back.”
‘Self’ was definitely a favourite with the boys. It showed the artist emerging from his lawyer self to be the new creative lego artist.
I think that says it all.
At the end of the exhibition there is a large area where you can build your own lego art, so Finlay, William and James built their own Eiffel Tower amongst other things. They would have stayed there for hours if they’d been allowed but we had to head on to our next destination…
This part of the day was a surprise for Finlay as he is such a huge fan of cars and he wasn’t disappointed. He absolutely loved the Bond in Motion Exhibition at the Film Museum in Covent Garden.
The exhibition had all the best cars from the Bond films including the underwater car from the ‘Spy Who Loved Me’. There were lots of clips being played around the exhibition of famous bond ‘chase’ scenes so Finlay now wants to see all the old films. So far he’s only seen ‘Skyfall’ which of course he loved, so he’s got plenty to catch up on.
Before heading home, we watched some street entertainment in Covent Garden and yes Finlay now wants to learn to juggle and has asked for a uni-cycle for Christmas.
A really great day out. Continue reading Day out in London – Finlay’s half term
