Trip to the Snow Centre – Hemel Hempstead

image

When we arrived I was urging with excitement to get on the slopes. Once we had got our skis and boots on we went out to the slope. I Had put my poles on awkwardly and spent another long five minutes sorting them out. When we went up the first poma it felt really weird to be back on skis. You could hear the shout of two young men on snow boards going over big jumps. When I went down the slope for the first time it brought back a wave of memories.

On about the third run we had a go at the little ramp and I went over it fine but mum on the other hand tried to do a trick and crashed and then slid down half the slope! On the poma for about the tenth time, they stopped it because someone had fallen over. I was unfortunately inches from the top and it was some time before they got it started again.
When we had finished we went upstairs to get a hot chocolate, it was very good but a bit too strong!

Day out in London – Finlay’s half term

The Art of Brick Exhibition, James Bond in Motion + some street entertainment in Covent Garden.

With Julie Lewis, William and James

Art of BrickNathan Saway gave up his job as a lawyer to follow his artistic dreams and has created an amazing array of lego sculptures that are now on display in London at the Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch,

The exhibition features over 80 sculptures created from more than a million LEGO® bricks. Some of the sculptures are fun, some are more thought provoking but we all loved it and the kids came away inspired.

Here are some of our favourites pieces:

Cracked

‘This sculpture depicts how I feel every morning.”

“Do you ever want to take your head off and shake all the junk out of it?”

image

“Haven’t we all been there, hanging on by a finger. I know I have. And though it might at first seem impossible, we usually manage to pull ourselves back up.”

image

“Taking a leap is hard. I used to be a lawyer There was nothing wrong with being a lawer, but I always knew there was another me, so  that same day I decided to let the Artist inside out and I never looked back.”

‘Self’ was definitely a favourite with the boys.  It showed the artist emerging from his lawyer self to be the new creative lego artist.

I think that says it all.

At the end of the exhibition there is a large area where you can build your own lego art, so Finlay, William and James built their own Eiffel Tower amongst other things. They would have stayed there for hours if they’d been allowed but we had to head on to our next destination…

imageThis part of the day was a surprise for Finlay as he is such a huge fan of cars and he wasn’t disappointed. He absolutely loved the Bond in Motion Exhibition at the Film Museum in Covent Garden.

The exhibition had all the best cars from the Bond films including the underwater car from the ‘Spy Who Loved Me’. There were lots of clips being played around the exhibition of famous bond ‘chase’ scenes so Finlay now wants to see all the old films.  So far he’s only seen ‘Skyfall’ which of course he loved, so he’s got plenty to catch up on.

Before heading home, we watched some street entertainment in Covent Garden and yes Finlay now wants to learn to juggle and has asked for a uni-cycle for Christmas.
